Gear
SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras give more control and versatility than point and shoot cameras and they're getting faster, better, smaller and cheaper all the time. A great entry level SLR just out is the Canon EOS 1000D. Canon offers complimentary training courses with your new purchase, to help you get your head around all those buttons and technical jargon.
Read
Do your research online and get up to speed in no time. DP Review is a good place to compare cameras, and then check out Bargain City for reviews, prices and promotions. Cathay Photo has a number of shops around Singapore with knowledgeable staff to guide you through your choice.
Learn
Part-time group courses from Beginners to Turning Pro are offered by Objectifs. The sessions combine theory and shooting assignments with the opportunity to have your work critiqued by the experts. The best way to learn is to practice and doing a course will force you to do so.
