Raw Kitchen Bar
Set in a funky house with an outdoor dining deck out the back, this place has a relaxed charming vibe. With mains like braised duck, ribs, and crab pasta for $20-24, this is a great cheap eat. With DJs spinning on Fridays and Saturdays, a fun place to kick back with friends. Book early in the week.

Chalk
Directly behind Plaza Singapura, Chalk is housed in an old school. It reminds you of the olden days of Dempsey Road before the hoards arrived. With French, Italian and Australian influences in the menu, Chalk is simple cuisine, with huge servings at very reasonable prices.
Must try: Duck Confit, and the Ribeye Steak

Kith Café
Derived from kith and kin, meaning friends, neighbours and relatives, this chic hole-in-the-wall café does great coffee, simple sandwiches and scrummy ice-cream. A great local!
Must Try: The pancakes with strawberries and ice cream

Bar Bar Black Sheep
This relaxed and popular bar tucked away in a food court serves Indian, Thai and Western food. The Western dishes at around $12 are big enough for two, making it a bargain. Wash it down with the great selection of European beers for around $7 a pint. A favourite with the locals and expats alike!

Suanthai
This little beauty has the real McCoy Thai dishes and spices. It's great value with its Thai buffet of 29 items for $16.90++ for lunch and $18.90++ for dinner Monday-Thursday and $19.90++ Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's also free flow of iced tea for $1.99 and free flow of pineapple rice for $1.50.
Must try: Tom Yum seafood soup - if you can handle the spice!
