Stay and Play

15 June 2009

Heading to KL for a night or two? Just make sure you know where to go, as there is plenty to do and see in our neighbouring city.

Stay
Get away from it all and experience a colonial hilltop mansion for a night or two at Carcosa Seri Negara. Think chintz, teak and marble. If you want more modern day book a club suite for sheer pampering at the Mandarin Oriental. Hotel Maya is another good option, with its central location and reasonable packages. But if you are after some Arabian glamour head to Le Méridien for a touch of white marble, chandelier and arabesque designs.

Dine
The restaurant scene is buzzing in KL, so make the most of your time. Our favourites include Feast which features 12 different restaurants, styled as an ethnic village. Caraway, is great for modern fusion and for unpretentious, simply great traditional Italian, we love Nero Vivo. From the Prosecco to the wood fired pizza this is an old favourite. Special occasion? Soak up the stunning jungle setting at Tamarind Springs, where the Indo Chinese menu has tastes of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam influences.

Drink
The tranquil QBa, The Westin, is the place to start. SkyBar in the Traders Hotel is a must, where you can cozy up in a cabana booth, and enjoy the sparky Petronas Twin Towers up close and personal. And to finish the night head to Zouk to groove the night away.

Shop
For some homegrown talent head to Aseana, where you will find local designers creating some Pucci-esque dresses with traditional batik patterns. The Bangsar area, is great for a spot of boutique shopping. Check out Gallo by Thian where everything is designed in-store! Mooie is great for youthful, casual threads, at friendly price points and the instore café is great for the weary shopper. Tea & Sympathy has a staple of cocktail dresses and pretty tops, and a small range of children's wear. Pop into Cats Whiskers for some killer heels, great bags and cute dresses.
