Far East Plaza Shopping Guide

04 July 2009

So when you plan to hit Orchard, Far East Plaza rarely makes the cut. But stop. Wait. Don't think shabby, think shabby-chic! At Far East Plaza you will find vintage designer bags, online fashion, vintage jewels, bargain second hand bookshops and more!

From the beginning...level three
If you only have a couple of hours, start here. Head to Woodwood (03-88) for some well cut dresses, and opposite Alveda (03-15) to book in for a 1 hour Jurlique facial ($58). Head to Branded (03-03) to trade in or buy branded bags like your vintage LV, Hermes, Chanel or Burberry, then shoot around the corner, pass the tattoo parlours to Beads Passion (03-13), if bead making is your thing.

Hit level four for more
First stop Ministry of Press (04-31). For lovers of American Apparel, there are no queues here (unlike London). These guys customize your t-shirts with your own designs, same day. Around the corner look out for Pretty Little Things, the name says it all, and stop into Collage Workshop (04-138) and Best of Blogshops (04-52A), who stock funky online fashion at bargain prices. Look out for Oh-so-fickle (04-133) who have some great vintage pieces, opposite you will find The Attic (04-146), who specialise in vintage décor, with piles of classic cameras, phones, sunnies and vinyl. Stop in at Champagne Adore (04-113) and directly opposite Glitter (04-137) for some cute day dresses, before heading up stairs for lunch.

Five for finale
Hungry? Head to Nambantei (05-132) the Yakitori restaurant at the top of the escalators where the skewers will satisfy. However, if you want to experience Singapore's very own 'soup nazi', head to Wasabi Tei (05-70). Expect to queue, be greeted by a grumpy chef, and charged extra for any second order, but the sashimi here is AMAZING, some say the best in Singapore.

While someone is minding your spot in the queue head to Ana (05-01) to grab a second hand book - buy or borrow. With a full stomach, sit back and chat over a mani-pedi at Nail Hub (05-106), or for a bargain head to Sonianto (05-122b) where an express mani-pedi is $15 (that's no typo!). If the hair is more in need, you could always go a wash blow dry at Formula Cut (05-86) for around $20. What a fab way to end the day!
