So the little pink ribbon is back - so what does this mean? Well perhaps you might like to attend a Breast Cancer fundraising event, maybe you will wear a pink ribbon, but whatever you do, Octobers a great month to think about protecting yourself against breast cancer.
Did you know?
• 1 in 11 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer before they are 75
• If you had your first child after 30 you are higher risk of developing breast cancer
• A woman's risk of getting breast cancer increases with age
• Drinking alcohol (more than 2 standard drinks a day) increases your risks of developing breast cancer.
• You are at a higher risk of breast cancer while you are taking the oral contraceptive pill - this appears to only increase the risk during the period of taking the pill; the risk goes back down after you stop taking it.
Get in early
The trick with breast cancer is to detect it early. So that means EVERY month you need to do a self examination - look, press and feel both breasts for any changes or lumps. If you do notice a change in one of your breasts you should have it checked by a doctor.
