Vintage Furniture

04 February 2010
likethatoneposter.jpg Finally! Someone has opened a store with vintage and rehabbed furniture here in Singapore. And that would be Like That One by Belle and Cheu. Although you have to schlep out to god-knows-where to find them, this is worth the effort. These guys bring funky, California-style vintage furnishings together with a sense of place that is distinctively Singapore. Each piece has been lovingly painted, embellished or crafted by hand. Stalwarts of Singapore '60s style such as cane chairs and bamboo end tables are re-worked into colorful pieces. Staid mirrors and hotel lobby paintings emerge as vibrant, eclectic artwork. Even your auntie's cast-off dishes find new life as quirky, hand-painted tableware. Each piece is unique with antique or retro elements. You will never see your new alligator-papered chair in the glassy box of a condo show flat!

We were there last weekend and Like that One is awesome!

At the end, we found letters in various fonts and materials (something we have been looking for a while), a well-restored metal suitcase and a table lamp!

Worth a visit!
