Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are
And that dazzles oh so bright
Silver or gold, formed just right.
Ever wanted to create your very own jewels? Solid silver, 22ct gold or something striking in bronze perhaps?
You need to learn about metal clay. Metal clay is wonderful stuff. It is created by recycled silver, gold and copper which is converted into a super-fine pure-metal powder, mixed with water and some special glue to produce a metallic suspension that is soft and moldable, like clay or plasticine. So those Play Doh skills can be put to work.
Modern jewellery artists now work with metal clays to produce designs and patterns difficult using traditional techniques and then 'fire' them to produce solid 999 silver, 22 karat gold, copper or bronze jewellery. With this new metal clay product, jewellers around the world have changed the way they work and just about anyone can successfully create something unique and wearable in just a few hours!
The Jewellery Design and Management International School founded by an award winning jewellery designer, gemmologist, jeweller and educator Tanja M. Sadow, now offers courses in metal clay along with other courses in designing, creating and working with gems and jewellery. JDMIS caters for industry professionals and casual hobbyists, so anyone can enrol and make their own jewellery.
So if you are interested in creating your own style, check out the JDMIS Website (where honeycombers readers stand to win a jewellery certification!) or visit JDMIS at their Open House this March 18th from 7pm-9:30pm where you can see live demonstrations of metal clay fabrication techniques you too can master. RSVP by phone or SMS to the school on 9125 4107 to reserve a seat.
