Baby Shower Party Essentials
02 March 2010When your BFF reaches a girth of a metre, it's time to get a-showering.
Plan
Baby showers need a simple smilebox invitation, and a venue. Afternoon teas are fun, but for something different head to a salon. Celicia's, Juup Nails or Porcelain Face Spa can cater for an intimate mani-pedi session for 10 or so.
Shop
Resist the urgent to buy a stuffed toy. Instead, go for a survival kit of Woodward's Gripe Water, THE baby manual - Baby Love, ear plugs and a voucher for a mani/pedi from your favourite spa. Or, if you feel you should buy something for the little dear, maybe the all natural, French and celebrity-loved Sophie the Giraffe, (loved by Nicole Richie and Isla Fisher). If you must buy something practical, head to Mothers Works - a Grobag, Konfidence swim nappy or Dwell Studio baby towel are always needed. If your mummy-to-be loves her organics, a set of organic baby products from Lemongrass House will be well received.
If the impending mum is a clean freak, wish her luck and supply some large Cotton on Kids bibs, she'll need both... If she is the studious type, we recommend the amazing Dunstan Baby Language DVD. Still stuck for ideas? Go for a sweet romper from Chateau de Sable (white please!). Looking for a group present? Bag a baby bag, like the lovely Big Mumma bag by Bahru or a Kate Spade baby bag.
Eat
Well, there ain't no tea without the cake. And there ain't nothing cuter than those mini booties on those wee little cupcakes. See My Fat Lady, Onicakes or Half Baked Ideas for your cutie cupcake fix.
Play
Of course you need not guess the weight of the mum-to-be, that could be, well, rather rude. Instead feel free to play pin the sperm on the egg, birth-celebrity head (using weird and wonderful birthing terms) and guess mum's tummy size - hint go for 1m+!
