Planes, Trains and Bumboats
Kids transport activities to keep them entertained
07 May 2010
Planes, trains and automobiles. Trucks. Fire engines. Boats. Anything that moves really. Highly appealing for most young kids...and some grown ups too. Your eyes may glaze over at the prospect, but a tour of the city on different modes of transport will kill a day, wear them out and they'll love it! And if we're getting all lofty about it, it might even broaden their minds too.
So put your car keys away. I know, it's hard. Preferably offload your smallest mites. Pack a backpack full of cold drinks, plenty of food and sunscreen. And get going.
A bus is the most obvious place to start. If it's a double-decker, even better. Bribe the aunty sitting up the top at the front to move. You need that seat. Get the bus to the closest MRT station then hop on a train. Where to? So many options....
HarbourFront MRT Station - then head to VivoCity (level 3) to hop on the Sentosa Express the light rail system to Sentosa. Seeing you're there it would be a shame not to leap onto the chairlift and then whizz down the hill on a go-cart called the Sentosa luge.
Or maybe Clarke Quay to get a bumboat down the river? The name alone should keep them amused.
Changi Airport to watch the planes taking off and landing. Go to the observation deck at Terminal One to get the best views. While you're there, you can also amuse the little ones catching a skytrain between terminals one, two and three.
A Fire Station open house, where kids can zoom 30 metres up into the sky on a rescue ladder, blast the hose and climb onboard a fire engine and an ambulance. What could be better?
A Ducktour. Is it a boat? Is it a bus? No, it's a strange Vietnamese warcraft that travels both on land and water. Kids will be amazed as it surges out of the water and then drives down the road.
You're all probably worn out by now. Get a taxi home. You've earnt it.
