Pack right. Extra nappies, clothing, kid's snacks (loving the mess-free Ella's), adult snacks, wet wipes, baby pain relief and new-unseen toys are a must. But don't go overboard, you have to carry this on remember.

Plane fun. Arrive to the airport a little early so everyone can see the big planes and switch into flying-excitement-mode.

Stroll-behind. If you can leave your stroller behind, do. If you need to bring one, invest in a light travel stroller. If you need to take a car seat, invest in gogo Kidz Travelmate, so the airport's a breeze.

Leave-behind... As much as you can! If you're heading to Bali, hire everything you need from Bali Baby. And while you are there, use Bali Concierge to whiz through the hellish immigration on arrival like a true VIP.

Carry-me-lucky. If your tot isn't toddling, make sure you have a baby-carrier; we love the new Ergo baby carrier from Mothers Work.

Up and down. Always feed, suck or snack away the takeoff and landing so ears pop easily with the altitude.

Ask away. Once in flight, don't be afraid to ask to move to an empty row, then everyone's sitting happy.

Wash me please. If little Johnny is bored to tears, take him to the wash room, for a giggle in the mirror and a flush of the loo. Repeat as necessary.

Keep calm. To guarantee a smooth ride, try some calming homeopathic remedies such as lavender essential oil in a handkerchief. If you need something stronger, an antihistamine like Phenergan in the correct dosage for your child's weight might do the trick. Just try both before you fly, so you know how bub will react.

Toy Story. Portable DVDs are popular, but even a pop-up kids toaster will do the trick. Just make sure you have some new toys that your little 'un hasn't seen before. Head to Toys'R'Us or the Early Learning Centre.

Safety in numbers. Try and travel with your partner or even a friend, share the love and the load.
