Happy Meals
Kid-friendly restaurants with the fun factor
11 June 2010
Happy kids = happy parents. Kids want good food, fast. Then they want to run, scoot, pat bunnies and check out the horses. Getting to enjoy some good food and an evening out while your kids play = happy parents. It's pretty simple.
But where to find this winning formula?
Run Kids Run
Chow down on great Chinese at hidden gem, Hua Zhu, while the kids bike ride/scoot/run around a large, safe area at the mezzanine level of the HDB block.
Go colonial at rustic Colbar. Think steak, fish and chips, bee hoon and chicken curry. Kids fun factor is the large field next door complete with ye old-school tyre swing from a tree.
Spruce serves up a simple, satisfying fare (burger fans - take note, we think theirs are some of the best going around). And the kids can run wild in the playground just below the restaurant. Cheers!
Buon appetit at La Villa. Classic Italian nosh with a relaxed vibe. Add the large oval next door for your most energetic bundles, complete with climbing frame, slide and swing, and you have your Italian evening out.
Animal Farm
Head to Picotin for European family-style classics in an old converted stable at Horse City, off Turf Club Rd. There's plenty of space to scooter/run around. And directly opposite at Horsecity, your kids can meet, feed and pat a family of pet rabbits or be kept busy by cheap and cheerful art activities.
By The Beach
Our top picks on the East Coast: 360 Restaurant and Bar to laugh at the cable-skiing antics and Mana Mana, where you can play volleyball, rent windsurfers, sailing boats and stand up paddle boards. Or just hire a bike and head along the East Coast Parkway to watch the planes land. Simple entertainment and very effective.
At Sentosa, Trapizza is our tip for fun beach side dining, with a small playground and plenty of sand toys for the kids. And if the kids are up to, it the Flying Trapeze is right next door.
Or hang at Privé before taking the kids on a tour past the yachts you've just been oogling over your martini.
Let There Be Grass
Aaah, the serenity ...while they bike, skate and run around to their little hearts' content. Great options are Casa Verde at the Botanic Gardens for terrific pizzas or Canopy at Bishan Park for Aussie style food.
