iPhone apps to entertain your kids

iEntertain iKids

When Peekaboo Barn (ages 2+) and the Wheels on the Bus (1+) start driving you bonkers, here are our tips for the latest greatest apps to keep them entertained while you finish your tea in peace.

A mini Picasso or Mozart?

Turn your iphone into a minature sketch pad with, Scribble (1+, $1). Or channel their inner Picasso with the 22 cartoon-styled animals on Colortoons (2+, $1). And Baby Piano (2+, $2) transforms your iPhone into a keyboard for their melodic (ish!) and musical pleasure.

Their ABC's

Perfect for your talented toddler, Alphabet Animals (age 3+, $2) is packed with colorful animations, animal sounds, and tons of tips for learning their letters. Or try Toddler Teasers (2+, $2) which quizzes tots on basic shapes and rewards them with virtual stickers. And you can teach your tots the basics by feeding the hungry purple monster in Feed Me (2+, Free) with the right letter/number matches.

Just for fun

Download Fruit Ninja (3+, $1) - using your finger as a blade, swipe various pieces of fruit that fly up in the air, chopping them in half. Or mesmerise them with a trip through the outer cosmos Galactica (any age!, $1) - they control the colours and explosions with their touch.

And you can pretend (at least for a short while!) with iPlayPhone (2+, $1) which gives them the look and feel of a phone without any calls to Tokyo added to the phonebill.

Lock it up

Make sure you protect your iPhone before your little angels have the chance to call Tokyo and delete your photos. Set a passcode lock on your phone by going to Settings > General > Passcode Lock.

Extra Ipod Protection

No more worries about handing over your music and photo lifeline (a.k.a. your iPod) to the little fingers in your house. The iFrogz Tadpole silicone case converts your grown-up media player into a pint-size but well-protected entertainment center. We'll let you know when we've found one this good for your iPhone.

Virtual Story Time

Does your chatterbox talk non-stop with the aunty down the road, but getting him to talk to Grandma on the phone is another story? Readeo is an online tool that connects two households through a website where they virtually read books to each other. You see and "turn" pages of the book, and hear and watch Grandma as she recites it. Family crisis averted.
