Thursday, 26 Aug 2010
Whether you are moving, redecorating or just need to spruce up your pad, there is always a very good reason to redecorate. And instead of schlepping all over town, here are some of our favourite furniture stores in Singapore and why we love’em.
A little bit like an Asian Aladdin’s cave, you never know what you might find in here. From Moroccan inspired table centre-pieces, to large leather lounges and petrified wood coffee tables. It sounds weird, but it works.
This 5000 sq ft industrial showroom is Singapore’s largest reclaimed wood furniture showroom. These guys are leading the way in bringing old wood back to life by handcrafting them into exquisite, functional and innovative furniture.
Owner Helle Esperson handpicks her range of original and reproduction Chinese furniture. Helle lives up to her name with fair prices, and you can browse most of her range on her website. We love the colourful and unusual pieces – like the distressed timber dining tables (as evidenced in our lounge room)!
This is an unusual store – at first it looks just like another teak outdoor furniture shop – but dig a little further and you will find beautifully restored art deco and retro wood furniture from around the region. We just love those 50s curves.
Oh the thrill of a vintage find!…. Owners Belle and Cheu understand this thrill better than anyone. A bit of a treasure hunt to find in itself, Like That One is worth the effort. Here you will find California-style vintage furnishings together with a sense of place that is distinctively Singapore.
Looking for a lava lamp, globe chair or Vernon Panton’s modern chair, skip over to the home of funky retro, Lorgan’s. This store is grooooovy. Even if you don’t find a little bit of funk to add to your abode, you will enjoy the visual time travel this store delivers.
With clean contemporary lines Originals has a sleek and functional pieces of teak modern furniture mixed with original ornate pieces from abroad. With their stylish blend of East and West, there is something for every design palate.
From Art Deco to the Ming Dynasty, Stew-arts is a collection of unique vintage and antique pieces. Mainly sourced from China with a smattering of European artifacts, Kirby Kwek has a great eye for furniture and this collection will show you how to blend eras and styles seamlessly.
