Kha Thai Restuarant Opens in Robertson Quay

Exciting news Singapore, that fine-dining Thai restaurant we all know and love, Kha has opened in a new hip location – Martin No. 38.
Kha is the first of the three dining venues to open at Martin No. 38. The second is Graze (a second outlet for this Rochester Park favourite) and a unique gourmet deli-style retail store Provisions.
Sited on a former warehouse in the old ‘godown’ district of Singapore, close to the Singapore River, the Martin No. 38 locale has been rejuvenated over recent years becoming a trendy residential enclave popular for its bohemian vibe and charming book cafés, art galleries, and bistros.
Inspired by the warehouse lofts in New York and London, featuring industrial aesthetics and seamless interior spaces, the Martin No. 38 has a funky vibe with its stylish interiors.
Using a palette of natural materials such as antique bronze, charcoal and wooden floors, Kha has an intimate and sensuous feel. Wanting to reflect the feel of a traditional Thai house without being too literal, the designer custom-produced a unique ‘joinery’ wall with a display of found objects and ceramics, giving a wonderfully comfortable living room feel to the venue. And the dark palette with special lighting creates a sense of ‘theatre’ for this Thai epicurean experience.
The menu has everything the old Kha was known for, and a few new additions. Some highlights for us were the Yam Som O ($17) a spicy pomelo salad, amazingly fresh and flavoursome. The Tom Yum Goong ($18) a hot & sour clear prawn broth, which was mighty spicy when we asked for medium (you have been warned…) and the desserts were to-die-for. Try the Sang Kha Ya Fug Thong ($13), baked pumpkin custard with coconut icecream sounds strange, but was an amazing blend of flavours – beautifully presented in a slice of pumpkin.
The 2 courses set lunch for $25++ or 3 course for $38 seems like excellent value – as this is high quality Thai food, that is surprisingly difficult to find in Singapore.
