Insiders Guide to Duxton Hill

Just when you think you have seen all you need (and a whole lot more) from some of the old time tenants of Duxton Hill, the swanky new restaurants move right on in. Here's what's new and noteworthy in this neck of the woods.

Sabio
If you haven't been here, put it firmly at the top of the list. This little tapas bar (brought to us by the owners of L'Entrecote) are showing us what it's all about. Must try is the aged jamon, and once tried you will find yourself dreaming of a Spanish escape.

The Jackson Plan
This brit-gastro pub, inspired by London's famous nose-to-tail eating St Johns is brought to us by Beppe de Vito (of il-Lido fame). A pub-style dining room, serving traditional northern English food, the quality and service was impressive, as you would expect. We loved the Potted Smoked Mackerel and Saltmarsh Lamb with Irish Champ. With potatoes served with almost every dish, and a very meat laden menu, this is excellent drinking fodder or if you dine for lunch you are guaranteed an afternoon coma (ours was 1.5 hours!).

Buyan
There's more to Russia than vodka, fur and blinged-out blondes. Discover a more homely side to the former Soviet republic at Buyan. But don't worry there is a $5 million wine cellar and a private room for 16 guests (with a $20,000 minimum spend) if you are out to impress! We loved the vodka and caviar bar - a sure hit with the Singapore crowd.

L'Entrecote
We love a restaurant that has a limited menu and with only one main dish - the French Bistro L'Entrecote does not disappoint. Its all about steak, sauce and frites... Let us explain... The menu includes a swathe of traditional French starters like rillettes, escargots, foie gras and beef bone marrow. Dessert includes lemon tart, real profiteroles and crispy waffle with salted butter caramel sauce. But for mains, there is just one dish, the classic steak and frites served with a secret butter sauce. Perfect for indecisive dinner guests or a rugby team on a night out.
