South Coast: Australian Bistro & Bar

Some of you know Coast in Hong Kong, and most of you know Boomarang in Singapore... And a few of us should be members of the 'You went to MGettigans when you were underage' facebook page (it truly does exist!)...

Well the renowned Australian publican family, the McGettigans have done it again with South Coast.

Bringing the best of Australian food in a laid-back bistro & bar right smack out the front of Marina Bay Sands, South Coast is waving the Australian flag with gusto.

Somewhat smaller than what we expected this bar-come-café-come-casual restaurant packs a punch where it counts. The sheer quality of the food. Head chef Timothy Maudson describes the food as a balance between good modern Australian 'pub food' and semi-fine dining experience, which matches the vibe of the place to a tee.

With bar-stools a plenty and retro-styled pendant lamps, this is a contemporary relaxed setting that is perfect for breakfast (they open at 8am!), a casual lunch, or drinks and dinner post-theatre.

We poked our head downstairs to find a cool private dining room (for 14-16) with open access to the kitchen. Here you can create your own menu, sample a wine-tasting menu or let Chef Tim create something for you.

There is a catch. Unlike every other place in Singapore, there is no-aircon here. Whilst we think this is a brave move (and we applaud them for it), we wonder whether it's a strategy to keep you drinking the cooling ales. But be warned this is not a place to wear your jeans.

Overall, we were suitably impressed, and will be back with the family in tow on the weekend for more menu sampling.

Hey Emma
Yes, thought might bring back a few distant, hazing memories for some! haha!
Do give South Coast a go - we enjoyed it and will be back.
Cheers, Chris

Nice article, shame about the place!

A far cry from Boomarang and Coast HK.

Ordinary and exceptionally rude service, no atmosphere and expensive. Not a place to go back to!
