Ditch the gym for a gossip with the girls... guilt free!
Monday, 25 Jul 2011
Some facts we love:
1. Dark chocolate is good for you.
2. Shopping IS exercise. And,
3. Lunch with the girls is good for your health.
This last fact caught us by surprise. A pleasant one indeed.
Our fact finding mission has deemed that women who have strong social connections and networks are not only happier, but live longer too. Yippee! We are going to live a long time!
The reason is when surrounded by our gal-pals we release feel-good brain chemicals that pick us up when we are down. (It comes back to those cavemen days, women are happier and safer in groups).
On the flip-side not having close confidants is as bad for your health as smoking or being overweight!
So now you have your perfect justification, here are our tips for great places to network with the girls and meet other fabulous chicks in Singapore:
Latte Ladies
Get together with the girls over coffee at one of Singapore’s new coffee shops. New to town? Newcomers are welcome at a number of expat associations coffee mornings, like the British Association or American Women’s Association.
Sweaty Betty
Women’s fitness groups are a great way to meet other likeminded exercise junkies. We like Ozfit and The Body Temple has started a running group to prep for a host of running events coming up in December.
With the Tot
Want to meet other mums? If you have a new bub, head to Mother & Child Centre’s New Mothers Get Together, Or of your little ones are older and have some energy to burn, head to the ANZA under 5 Playgroup at Go-Go Bambini.
Book it
Book worm or not, book clubs are a great excuse for women to catch up to enjoy a chat and a wine (or two) – who says you have to discuss the book? See bookclub meetup or start your own.
Cocktail Conversation
Nothing like a tipple with the girls. Get the girls together for a girls night out, see our suggested bar hopping itinerary or if your new in town, head to First Thursdays. Organised by the lovely British social butterfly Daniela Slater, this is a welcoming group and a great place to meet expat women who get together and network at a new bar every first Thursday of the month.
