The Best Book Stores in Singapore

Borders Wheelock has closed down, but don't panic!

There are still plenty of places to source great reads...plus lots of book shops centres to loiter around in. Here is where to get your book fix now Borders has shut...

Books Actually
Books Actually is a staunch supporter of local writers and marries high literature with a whimsical, quirky charm. Vintage collectible books, Singaporean hardbacks and fun knick knacks sit alongside great fiction. See, a love of Tolstoy can still mean you are funky and interesting.

Woods in the Books
Like the delicious Books Actually for picture books, they stock classics like Milly Molly Mandy and Tin Tin comics for big kids at heart. Oddly, it isn't the best spot for bringing young toddlers, but for mums who want to relive a vintage-inspired childhood, it's perfect.

Littered With Books
A holistic, classical book store with everything from travel to cook books, sci-fi, crime, and children's novels. It's not as quirky as the others, but that might be more appealing if you just want chick lit or a thriller, rather than hoity-toity literature.

Kinokuniya Bookstores
Quite simply, heaven in a bookstore. You walk in to buy a gift and walk out with two avant-garde design magazines, the most delightful kids pop-up book you've seen, a new Moleskine Journal and the latest New York Times bestseller (or three). We recommend becoming a member.

The Book Depository
So they are not actually in Singapore... BUT we couldn't help but include this fab online store. With free shipping and cheap cheap prices, those that love a bargain will love The Book Depository. Although stinginess comes at a cost. Delivery times can be slow and its basic interface means occasionally you end up with something unintended...

NoQ Store
This new locally based website boast faster delivery times and cheaper rates for other Asian destinations. Delivery costs a nominal $5 in Singapore no matter how much you order. To save even more, sign up for an additional 10% discount.
