4 Must Try Vegetarian Restaurants in Singapore
24 September 2011
With so many delicious cuisines to choose from, eating out in Singapore shouldn't be predictable. There is little doubt about the health, ethical and environmental benefits of a meat-free diet, but all the Indian-inspired vegetarian restaurants can become a bit too much of a good thing... you know what we mean!
Now veg cuisine is taking its turn to shine!
Lingzhi Vegetarian
Serving Chinese-vegetarian cuisine, Lingzhi offers a mushroom hotpot buffet - a unique dining experience in which the diner plays chef. You have a tasty broth sitting on a hotplate at your table, flavoured to your liking with an impressive selection of fresh mushrooms, noodles and tofu. Fresh ingredients with great flavour and texture really soothe the soul.

Genesis
The peeps at Genesis takes good health very seriously. The menu features salads, rice and western dishes as well as proverbs for good health - just in case you had any doubts about healthy eating! Food is 100% vegan and highlights include the Japanese rice and the sundried tomato pasta. The pasta sauce tastes like cream, but is actually made from ground Brazil nuts and cashews. Clever indeed. Dessert includes the signature key lime pie made with avocado. A must try is the MonaVie acai drink, made from 19 'body beneficial' fruits. Delish.

Cafe Salivation
Channeling an American diner with its pretty pink interior, Café Salivation was created for vegetarians who have suffered from the lack of variety in Singapore. All bases have been covered with an extensive menu featuring breakfast, soups, salads, pizza, Mexican, burgers and pasta. Also on offer are a range of towering parfait concoctions and 12 flavours of egg free gelato. The spinach burger and tempting kidney bean quesadillas are great choices for a light lunch.

Original Sin
A Singapore institution, Original Sin is the only Mediterranean vegetarian restaurant in town. , A regularly revamped menu features new dishes such as the creamy yet fresh spanakopita (as pictured) and long-time favourite bosco misto - spinach, feta and tofu patties coated with crushed almonds and sesame seeds. Dessert is an irresistible range of Mediterranean inspired delights including a rich baked cheesecake swirled with Valrhona chocolate. Many dishes can be made without egg, dairy, garlic or onion, so there are options for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike. We love the alfresco setting and wine list to boot.
