Review: New Pantry at the Stables

If you feel like a trip to the countryside for that ra-ra experience without the hassles of the causeway traffic or an airport, we can recommend a visit to the new The Marmalade Pantry - Pantry at the Stables.

Whilst the memories of large nights at Mimolette will be hazily remembered forever, Mimolettes has sadly closed, and in its place, Pantry at the Stables has replaced it.

(*sigh* such a familiar Singapore story... out with the old... )

With its' stylish colonial monochromatic color scheme of black and white, green as green outlook, (cue the horses trotting past in the distance), along with an extensive weekend brunch menu, this new Marmalade Pantry will give PS Café Dempsey some real competition for the lazy brunch venue with style.

Recommended brunch items include the steak and eggs on a skillet with smashed peas ($38++), french toast with caramelized pear and vanilla bean ice cream ($17++) and chorizo frittata with wood roasted piquello red pepper ($18++). To welcome the weekend on the right note, guests can also enjoy home-made Sangrias and fruity Margaritas served by the pitcher.

This venue would also be fabulous for a casual dinner with the girls. Diners can relax with cocktails on French striped deck chairs which overlook the surrounding greenery before proceeding to be seated in the main dining room or alfresco for their meals. Dishes are simple but excexcuted well. Like pan-seared haloumi with roma tomatoes - which has a tangy dressing. And we loved the mexican chicken salad served with crispy tortilla, avocado, spiced corn and salsa ($22++). On the mains, a must-try at Pantry at the Stables is the spaghetti carbonara ($24++) and the pork and fennel seed sausage lasagna ($24++).

But you would be mistaken if you didn't leave room for the desserts. We loved the lemon brulee tart ($14++) and granny smith and stem ginger pudding with salted caramel ice cream ($13++).

The only sad thing about our whole experience was learning that Pantry at the Stables is only open Tue-Fri 3pm-11pm and Sat & Sun 10am-11pm. We hope this these hours might change once the secret is out.
