Sometimes in Singapore you stumble across a hidden colonial treasure.
Something that has all the grandeur of Raffles Hotel, yet none of the over the top snootiness and ridiculous prices to boot.
And that is exactly what happened with our unexpected visit to Alkaff Mansion, a stunning black and white which has been transformed into a most impressive Italian restaurant.
Situated near the Henderson Wave Bridge on the top of the Telok Blangah Green, we came across this restored beauty on the Southern Ridges walk.
With its grand entrance, huge reception area and oh-so-chic bar and restaurant, we were thrilled with this find. We loved the outdoor terrace and fountains, lawn and quirky abundance of oversized rocking chairs... making it just perfect for grand parties (like weddings) along with romantic dinners. We were also pleasantly surprised with their very reasonable breakfast menu and the fact that they open at 8am (hallelujah!) perfect for early risers and those with tots in tow.
We did a quick test run of the breakfast menu and the service - and whilst the early morning menu was a little limited, it was extremely well priced ($4 for pancakes), and the service was second to none.
With a quick sneak around the restaurant, we fell in love with the beautifully restored building and the 1920s glamorous and chic bar - just calling for a girl's night.
So if you are looking for a romantic date venue, or to show off your insider knowledge of Singapore, or perhaps just somewhere different for an early breakfast - head over to the new (or rather new-again) Alkaff Mansion. And of course, tell them Honeycombers sent you!
