Review: Bistecca Steakhouse
Monday, 6 Feb 2012
The best charcoal grilled steak anywhere. That’s their charter – and to be honest, they are doing it justice.
This new steakhouse on Mohamed Sultan is named after the famous regional dish of Tuscany, Bistecca Fiorentina, and uses only the finest cuts of steak cooked to perfection on a charcoal-grill.
Importing almost everything directly from Tuscany, from the ingredients to the chef (Chef Francesco Mansani is at the helm), these guys do an impressive signature steak. Cut 2 inches thick, this T-bone is cooked over charcoals using only a Tuscan salt rub to bring out the natural flavours.
Now, we are not massive steak-eaters, but we definitely enjoyed every mouthful of this tender and flavoursome steak. We also were impressed with the entrees and pastas on the menu, not to mention the desserts.
Some highlights – the tuna tartare was an amazing starter and the ravioli stuffed with roasted pumpkin, amaretti and fruit chutney in brown butter and sage just melted in your mouth. We also loved the pork ragout tagliatelle and we will be back to try the pistachio pesto stracci. (Yes we do have a weakness for homemade pasta …)
We tried the chef’s favourite – home made sausage which follows a recipe of a 5th generation butcher in the Chianti region – but weren’t blown away by this one.
The dessert was a different story. We had the rhubarb and strawberry ‘soup’ with yogurt ice-cream – which was divine. Expect difficulty sharing this one.
Overall, we think these guys are going to be jam-packed with the carnivorous crowd – because they really are in a league of their own.
