Pizza Paradise

Ten best pizza joints

Thursday, 5 Apr 2012

Let’s face it, there is nothing we like more than a good hunk – of cheese. Read on to see our top pizza picks around town for the best pizza in Singapore!

Pizza Paradise
With the weekend approaching, we think you deserve a good margherita. It may be alcohol-free, but there’s no denying that it hits the spot. Plus, it’s always a hit with the kids.

Mozza Pizzeria 380

sole pomodoro

Sole Pomodoro
Think you’re a crust aficionado? Then it’s time to get certified at this Little India wood-fired pizza joint. Opened by Gerri Sottile and Mauro Muroni of the popular Cugini Trattoria Pizzeria on Club Street, we love this place for its complex-tasting crusts (seriously!). Our recommendations: the Bufala (a well-executed Margherita with Buffalo Mozzarella flown fresh from Italy!).

Sole Pomodoro, 19/21 Mackenzie Road, #01-01, Singapore 228678, Tue-Sun 12-11pm, p. 6884 3671

Mushroom Bianco

Extra Virgin Pizza
Cheeky fella, this one. Extra Virgin is pretty inconvenient for us non-CBD folk, but Chef Matthew White (previously based in Philly) sure knows his way around pizzas. We particularly love their Mushroom Bianco, although their Pistachio Pesto pizza is another popular one to try. If only they opened Sundays…

Extra Virgin Pizza, 8 Marina View, #01-04, Asia Square Tower 1, Singapore 018960, p. 6247-5757 Mon-Fri 10am–11pm, Sat 11am-11pm. Closed Sundays. Delivery service is available Mon-Sat 11am-9pm to most areas in the CBD.

Mozza Pizzeria

Pizzeria Mozza
Let it be known that we are mega fans of the standing Mozzarella bar this pizzeria shares with Osteria Mozza; the creamy Burrata is to die for. But their pizzas are no letdowns either – our absolute top pick is the bacon, salami, fennel sausage, pancetta, tomato & mozzarella pizza. Pricey at $37, but worth every cent.

Pizzeria Mozza, Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956, daily 12-11pm, p. 6688 8522

La Nonna

La Nonna
If you like truffles (or in our case, loooove truffles) and haven’t tried the La Nonna Signature Pizza (Tomato, Mozzarella, Parmesan, Asparagus, Egg and Black Truffle), it is sheer truffle blasphemy. The quality of the crust at La Nona also deserves special mention: light and crispy all around. Not one for crusts? La Nona will change your mind. We also think that service at the Holland V outlet can be inconsistent, so head to Namly if you’re a stickler for these things.

La Nonna @ Namly Place, 76 Namly Place, Singapore 267226, daily 12-230pm, 6-1030pm, p. 6762 1587; La Nonna @ Holland Village, 26/26B Lorong Mambong, Singapore 227685, daily 12-230pm, 6-1030pm, p. 6468 1982

La braceria credit 1st journal

La Braceria Pizza and Grill
At another Italian restaurant, they might tell you they don’t have fresh artichoke because “they don’t have their own garden” (true story). At La Braceria, fresh vegetables are flown in straight from Italy If you like your Italian meats, you must try their homemade stuffed sausages. This is also the only restaurant in Singapore that serves porchetta, an Italian-style roast pork (must be ordered ahead). And while you’re indulging, be sure to try their Chocolate Lava Cake doused in Grand Marnier… Divine!

La Braceria Pizza and Grill, 5 Greendale Avenue, Mon-Sun1230-230pm, 630-1030pm, p. 6465 5918

CPK

California Pizza Kitchen
Pizza purists gonna hate, but we have to include CPK because it offers some really unusual concoctions you won’t be able to find elsewhere. Regular lovers of Timbre’s Roasted Duck Pizza must try CPK’s Peking Duck Pizza. We also like their BLT (Applewood Smoked Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mozzarella) topped with fresh avocado. The US must have been thinking of this pizza when they ruled that pizza is a vegetable, because the sheer amount of lettuce on this thing – you might think it’s actually good for you.

California Pizza Kitchen, Forum the Shopping Mall, 583 Orchard Road, #01-42, Singapore 238884, daily 1130am-1130pm, p. 6836 0110

Da Paolo

Da Paolo Pizza Bar
Fun fact: the first time we had Da Paolo we had it takeaway. The pizza never reached home because it was so good we sat down by the curbside and finished it all. We love the Bosci D’Inverno (mascapone, black truffles, and mushrooms), but we are definitely not fans of the service here.

Da Paolo Pizza Bar @ Holland Village, 44 Jalan Merah Saga #01-46, Singapore 278116, Mon-Fri 12-230pm, 530-1030pm, Sat-Sun 9am-1030pm, p. 6479 6059

Ristorante Da Valentino
Valentino is like the Italian grandmother we’ve never had. Tucked away in Rifle Range Road, family-run Valentino is tiny and almost always packed so don’t go without a reservation! We especially love their Parma Rucola Porcini (Parma Ham, Porcini Sausage, and Arugula) – the pizza tends to get soggy quickly, but nothing an overload of fresh ingredients (and all that cheese) can’t fix. Admittedly, however, we prefer their pasta (they make a mean squid-ink pasta). Pick-up options available.

Ristorante DeValentino, 11 Jalan Bingka, Singapore 588908, Tue-Sun 12-230pm, 6-1030pm, p. 6462 0555

Bella Pizza credit Analox and Admire Photography

Bella Pizza
Bella Pizza is Chef Antonio Manetto’s (formerly from Da Paolo) solo venture, so if you’re expecting good stuff, you won’t be disappointed. His extensive pizza menu features both white and red pizzas and can even be made into calzones at no extra charge!

Bella Pizza, 30 Robertson Quay, #01-14 Riverside View, Singapore 238251, p. 6734 0139

Peperoni

Peperoni Pizzeria
The Les Amis group caters to the masses too with Peperoni – popular with the students on a budget and a good Sunday family meal. If you’re looking to feed a large group of people on the dime, get there now – they serve pizza in XXL portions (21”).

Peperoni Pizzeria, 6 Greenwood Avenue, Hillcrest Park, Singapore 289192, p. 6465 6556; 7 Binjai Park, Singapore 589821, p. 6463 7800; 95 Frankel Avenue, Singapore 458221, p. 6445 5661; 56 Zio Road, Singapore 247781, p. 6732 3253. Mon-Sat 12-1030pm, Sun 11am-1030pm
