Kookaburra Restaurant & Gastrobar
Our discerning Australian foodie and Managing Editor Chris Edwards loves checking out a new place. Her latest find? The newly opened Kookaburra, sister establishment of Late Plate, and rated it a “will return”:
“Kookaburra is definitely a good breakfast place – or for the snoozers, an all-day breakfast spot. We loved the twist on the usual menu items – like Fluffy Pancake Stack with caramelized apples, crisp pork belly, and swirled cinnamon rhubarb ice-cream. You bet I’ll be back for more.”

For a casual Saturday brunch, Chris (who can’t get enough of stripes) goes the nautical route.
“Pants are such an easy and practical option, and these Alexander McQueen white cropped trousers are classy to boot. My outfit is inspired by nautical adventures with a playful twist. The predictable blue-white combo is updated by incorporating some luxe gold and sultry red. The flat sandals keep the look casual (it is Saturday brunch!), but the key to nailing the casual chic statement: polished nails pull any look together.”

If your closet’s looking a little dated, it’s time to call in the experts. That’s why we keep Innika Choo on speed dial – seriously, call her! This personal stylist and all-around sweet lass (who’s expecting her first babe, which is hard to believe!) has only great things to say about her night out at Esquina:
“This place is a real gem, serving delicious treats from a fully visual (and almost interactive) kitchen arena. Be sure to order the grilled romaine heart salad, sea bass with salt cod puree, and that most divine chocolate mousse! No sangria for me I’m afraid, but I’ll be sure to indulge as soon as I can.”

Innika’s outfit of the night:
“As a Brisbane girl, I’m a massive fan of Brisbane based label Easton Pearson. Its bold and cheerful print is perfect for flattering my ever-growing baby bulge.
I’m a sucker for mixing texture and pattern, and Stella McCartney’s woven faux leather clutch is the perfect bold pop to shine with any outfit. In Singapore I’m most comfortable in flat open sandals, and these beaded Burberry’s are just quirky comfort I enjoy.”

Balzac Bar and Brasserie
More often than not, you’ll find our Editor, Melissa Tai, clacking away on her keyboard sorting out deadlines and articles. But this multi-tasker will always pencil in time for dessert. Always. She reviews French bistro, Balzac Bar and Brasserie:
“Balzac is quite the chameleon. Swing by when it’s quiet and you’ll feel like you’re in a charming little Parisian café, but once the crowd picks up, it turns into a trendy bar with an urban underground vibe. As a vege, I really enjoy the Heirloom Tomatoes (with spinach leaves, Roquefort cheese and hand-carved fleur de sel with basil dressing). I also love the homemade hand-cut pommes frites (fries). And for dessert, you have to try the Tarte Au Citron – divine.”

Melissa pares down her outfit to really let the jewellery shine:
“Comfort is definitely key when you’re hanging out with friends, but dressing down doesn’t mean dressing dull! I tend to shy away from colour but this season’s neon trend is really resonating with me, so I’m starting to incorporate colour into my closet. I love this VENNA Shekinah Necklace and want it to take centre stage, so the rest of the outfit’s pretty simple. Just a good ol’ cateye, a hint of lip colour, a sleek pair of heels, and I’m good to go.”

Kinki Restaurant and Bar
Need to be schooled on the best preschools in town or kid-friendly spots? Ask Janine Clements, our super knowledgeable kids writer. She may be a mum of two, but the girl definitely knows how to glam it up on girls’ nights out! Here’s her lowdown on Kinki:
“I can’t get enough of Japanese food so when I feel like splashing out I head to Kinki on Collyer Quay for sushi. It has a cool vibe and a rooftop bar with a DJ, with an incredible view overlooking Marina Bay. To make a good night even more fun, go with a group of friends! It’s a great excuse to dress up.”
Kinki Restaurant + Bar, 70 Collyer Quay #02-02, Customs House, Singapore 049323, Mon-Fri 12-230pm, Mon-Sat 6-1030pm, p. 6533 3471
Janine embraces colour and adores a good pop of coral in any outfit:
“I love the colour-blocking trend this season, especially anything with coral in it – it’s a total hit in the tropics! I like wearing outfits that make a statement, which is why I love this Alexander Wang head-turner. The Stella McCartney heels are great for elongating your legs too.”
