Up Close with Lisa Clayton
Hello There, Honey
Sunday, 27 May 2012
We have found the true wonder woman – Lisa Clayton, a total one-woman show.
As a personal trainer and fitness instructor, she runs OzFit; when she’s not kicking workout butt, she’s hanging out with her gorgeous family (twin boys, a golden retriever, and her amazing husband); sometimes she puts on her modelling shoes, and she still manages to look fantastic despite waking at 530am every day!
We’re in total awe of this feisty lady – read on for her best exercise tips, beauty routine, and watch out for her adorable little boys!

Tell us a little about your childhood. Where did you grow up and where is home now?
I moved around a little growing up between NSW and QLD- Brunswick Heads (just North of Byron Bay) when I was a toddler, Gold Coast for junior school and Northern Beaches of Sydney through high school.
I absolutely loved my childhood in QLD living on the beach and was heavily involved in Surf Life Saving. Before moving to Singapore my husband and I were living in Neutral Bay; when we return it will definitely be back to the Northern Beaches.

Tell us about your family and your home here.
My husband and I moved here 4 years ago from Sydney, for what we thought was just a couple of years (isn’t that what we all thought?). Singapore now feels like home and a big Club Med! Always a holiday and plenty to do for the kids!
I am blessed to have 15 month old twin boys, who are my pride and joy. Plus our beloved Golden Retriever, Axel, our first baby. We hope to be here for a long time.

You seem to do so many things! You manage OzFit and you model too? What was the inspiration behind OzFit?
It’s a busy life but I’m not one to sit on the couch. I live by a schedule! Always have though.
OzFit started over a conversation about exercising outdoors with friends and how we missed the way it used to be back home. There were a few companies going around at the time but the numbers were huge and we wanted something, which was a little more personal and fun. We trialed with friends and its organically grown from there, with no advertising. It’s exactly how I hoped it would be.

What about modeling?
Modelling, well, there isn’t much time left for that now! It’s just a fun hobby to be able to do when the opportunity comes up. It’s not like it is back in Australia but it helps me escape my running shoes occasionally and who doesn’t love having hair and make up down, right? I barely wear make up these days and wear my hair in a ponytail, so it’s definitely a nice time out.

What’s a typical day like for you? Which parts of your work do you love and which can’t you stand?
I love it all. I really can’t complain about any aspect at all – ok, sometimes when my alarm goes off at 5.30am I do think I want to roll back over – but after a latte I’m out the door and have a buzz instantly.
I love the adrenaline that comes after a workout and I love taking sessions and kicking some workout butt. I prefer to do back-to-back sessions, so I’m home for my sons’ lunch and the rest of the day is mine and theirs. I fit in my admin and doing my prep for sessions when the boys sleep.

What are your three top exercise tips?
1. Routine, if you don’t have it, you’ve got no discipline.
2. Exercise with friends – it’s so much more motivating and enjoyable not to be the only one sweating.
3. Mix it up – exercise can get boring if you stick to one thing. Plus, your body becomes too efficient and burns less calories if you don’t have variety.

Beauty routine – your complexion is absolutely glowing, so fess up! Good genes, good habits, or great products?
The glow is sweat! (Ed note: Lisa is too modest!) I don’t have expensive stuff; I always wish I had a better beauty regime. My mother always said to wash your make up off and use olive oil on your skin when it’s dry! But I do wash it a few times a day as I sweat so much and use a sunscreen-based moisturizer.

What are the top 5 products you cannot live without?
1. Cetaphil Cleanser
2. Laura Mercier Tinted moisturizer with SPF 30
3. DiorShow New Look Mascara
4. Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzer in Bahama, and
5. Nivea Body Moisturiser

How about your style – how would you describe it and what wardrobe pieces are on heavy rotation?
I love colour – the brighter it is, the more fun I feel. I never wear jeans; I hate the feeling, so I live in summer dresses and denim shorts with H &M singlets! That’s when I feel most like myself. I have so many sandals and wedges in every colour so love to wear them when I’m out.

Favourite restaurants in Singapore?
Blu Kouzina is great every time, Kinki for visitors, but I’m much more of a casual restaurant kind of girl so you’ll mainly find me at Kith Café or Jones!
Thanks for the heads up, Lisa!
