Carpenter and Cook

Call it what you will, but our Mad Men, Pan-Am obsession continues… with Carpenter and Cook furiously fuelling it.
This cozy new café is an ongoing vintage-themed tea party with some serious eats. We’re talking a full menu of sweet and savoury treats – from zingy lemon crème tarts, passionfruit meringue tarts, and pear frangipane tarts, to mini loaf cakes (lemon drizzle is heaven-sent), scones, savoury quiches, and brioches.
You can also get your coffee fix here – Liberty Coffee supplies the beans while a vintage Elektra Barlume churns out your espresso. The machine is gorgeous, but you might not even notice it with everything else around you…
Because this place is just chock-full of rad vintage beauties: old Singer sewing machines, vintage radios and telephones (most in working order), kitchen accessories, and an eclectic collection of mismatched furniture (although adorably so) that includes lounge chairs, writing desks, and side tables. Plus, great news for shopping addicts: almost everything here is for sale! Yes, including that china you’re eating off of.
Talk about a hidden gem! We’ve also heard that these guys are super jammers – we can’t wait to lay our pudgy hands on their sea salt caramel spread, but they also have other terrific (and some unusual) flavours like raspberry and lemongrass, pineapple and rosemary, watermelon, apple and grapefruit, and blackcurrant and pinot noir.
Brunch date? You bet we’ll be there, coiffed hair and all.
