Hotel 1929 was certainly ahead of its time when it selected its location. While golden oldies like Tong Ah Eating House (36 Keong Saik Rd, 6223 5083) have been perfect for that old school coffee shop charm, Keong Saik Road finally also has some trendier offerings for when you’re not in your flip flops.
We’ve found the only restaurant in the city where the alfresco area doesn’t double as a second oven. French bistro fare like succulent beef bourbuignon and a mean French onion soup are the menu mainstayers here. For corporates on the fly there is the Express Lunch of two courses served within a speedy 25 minutes.

Cute jersey tops, flirty cocktail dresses and ruffle-detailed shorts at extremely reasonable prices are this boutique’s specialty. It’s not high fashion, but for a fun little mid-week retail pick-me-up, this is very appealing.
Where: Love Mi, 14 Keong Saik Rd
This mixology bar boasts chic cocktails perfect for impressing on a first date or for a frivolous night out with the girls. This self-appointed “fashionista VIP lounge” is ideal for those who want a drinking establishment that focuses on bespoke mixed beverages rather than sports and portable beer taps.

There is an ever-expanding range of gorgeous handmade clothing here for little people in vintage-inspired mismatched floral prints with cute-as-a-button detailing. Homewares such as locally designed cushions and carefully crafted women’s accessories are also pretty irresistible.

Oriole Coffee Roasters?
It’s here that the Oriole group freshly roasts all their beans for their superb espresso-based coffees. This outlet aims to modernize local koptiam fare to eat with your latte, so they serve an excellent soft boiled egg and kaya toast better than mother used to make.
