One Street Wonder
Hidden Gems along Telok Ayer Street
Wednesday, 11 Jul 2012
Everyone talks about the dull business district, but nobody’s told us how good the CBD folk really have it.
With gourmet coffee, affordable breakfast sets (that start as early as 730am), and multi-label boutique shopping, we are 100% jealous of you lucky people in the Telok Ayer area!
Here’s our guide to navigating this charming street:
Telok Ayer’s secret foodie weapon. Mean coffee, delish sandwiches, and gobsmackin’ affordable breakfasts every weekday from 730-11am. With quality produce from grass-fed beef, hormone and antibiotic-free chicken, and bacon that’s cured in-house – this cozy joint is a must-try!

What do office workers do on their coffee break? They duck into swanky boutiques for quickies. Once just a top online retail store, Doorstep Luxury has expanded offline… and into Telok Ayer. Find handpicked brands from around the world like Kara Ross (NYC), Temperley London, Oscar de la Renta, and Cambridge Satchel Company.

Truffs Café & Chocolate Atelier
Who doesn’t need chocolate in their lives? Satisfy your dessert craving with divine handmade French chocolate. Choose from decadent chocolate truffles, chocolate cake, or an indulgent chocolate tart (our pick!). Salivating yet?

You’d be forgiven for thinking this place is a junkyard. But true vintage and antique hunters know that good things come to those who scour – and with the A+ service from sweet owner, Juzer Saifee (who miraculously knows where everything is), you might just come away with a one-of-a-kind coversation piece for your home.

We’ve already talked about their coffee, but if you drop by The Muffinry without picking up these star products, we’ll just come right out to say it – it’s sheer blasphemy! Flavours include Apple Blueberry Crumble, Green Eggs & Ham (yes, really), and Spiced Carrot, but our absolute favourite? Banana Walnut and Chocolate Chips. Moist, not too sweet, and perfectly melty chocolate surprises – be sure to eat warm.

Don’t call it hipster before letting SPR MRKT prove its chops. This casual gourmet dining (we know, it’s hard to wrap your head around) not only serves up some good lunchtime nosh, it also has takeaway snacks and a retail corner of lifestyle products. Another bonus: they serve special Saturday brunch! Great incentive for the poor souls stuck in the office on a weekend.
