Eric Carle's Caterpillar, Bear, and the Moon
Thursday, 5 Jul 2012
What do a very hungry caterpillar, a brown bear, and a little girl who wants the moon have in common?
They’re all the magnificent creations of Eric Carle, legendary children’s book author and illustrator.
If your kids love the books, they’ll love Mermaid Theatre’s (CAN) new production, which brings together three children’s stories – The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me.
Presented by ACT 3 International, this triple bill is sure to delight any Eric Carle fan. It uses shadow puppetry, evocative music, and ‘black light’ that enables puppets and props to appear on stage as if they were animated on their own (fascinating more than just the little ones).
The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the hatching of a caterpillar from egg to butterfly; Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? utilizes rhythmic text and Carle’s characteristic tissue-paper collage illustrations, and Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me teaches kids about the lunar cycle.
