5 New Coffee Places to Try

Wednesday, 1 Aug 2012

Java nuts – we heard you loud and clear on Caffeine Buzz.

If you’ve got coffee in your blood and cafe hunting in your nature, you know you can count on us to fuel that caffeine search!

Here are 5 new places you need to check out:

Coffeesmith

Female baristas are like female drivers – as good as anyone out there! The feisty ladies who run Coffeesmith use beans from Papa Palheta and don’t waste their time with latte art (how’s that for bucking the trend?) but if you appreciate a strong cuppa, get here now. Chances are, if you work in the CBD – you jolly well deserve need it.

Coffeesmith, 62 Collyer Quay #02-11, Singapore 049325, p. 9339 6878

Kohii Gourmet Coffee

A contemporary Tokyo café in the heart of the business district? We can get on that. The highlight of this café is definitely the food: we love the extensive salad and sandwich menus, but the Mixed Mushroom Soup is a recipe after our own hearts. Munchies here are also significantly lighter with many vegetarian options. And if any of you javaheads are looking to try something new, Kohii uses UCC Ueshima coffee, a leading Japanese line with over 70 years of experience. Big bonus: catch their rainy day promotion – you get free coffee/tea with any item purchased!

Kohii Gourmet Coffee, 1 Shenton Way #01-06, Singapore 068803, p. 6509 9639, Mon-Fri 9am-10pm, Sat 9am-3pm

The Coffee Daily

We’re regular happy patrons of the sleepy Serangoon Gardens estate, and The Coffee Daily is a definite reason to visit. We’re all fans of the mismatched vintage furniture and homey décor, plus the generally lazy, laidback vibe. The café also has a full menu of cake pastries, and ice-cream.

The Coffee Daily, 75 Brighton Crescent, Serangoon Garden Estate, Singapore 559216, p. 6284 8894, Mon-Thu 11am-1030pm, Fri-Sun 930am-1130pm

Societe Canteen

Cluny Court is truly Bukit Timah’s little charmer. Inspired by Melbourne’s café culture, the charming little café makes a mean cuppa with beans by one of our favourite roasters, Papa Palheta. And if you’re in the neighbourhood, drop by for weekend brunch. Eggs for the kids, coffee for your nerves.

Societe Canteen, 501 Bukit Timah Rd, #01-05B Cluny Court, Singapore 259760, p. 6762 5600, Tue-Fri 10am-7pm, Sat-Sun 8am-8pm

6oz Espresso Bar

CBD kids are endlessly spoilt for choice. Not only will you find quality coffee made with 100% Arabica beans, you’ll also get freshly baked pastries, gourmet toasties, and all-day breakfast at this side-street café.

6oz Espresso Bar, 20 McCallum Street, Tokio Marine Centre, #01-K1, Singapore 069046, p. 6509 6602, Mon-Fri 730am-6pm
