Dress Smart with Ong Shunmugam
Friday, 24 Aug 2012
We’re pretty sure all you clever ladies already know how to borrow from the boys, but we have to hand it to Ong Shungmugam: the line’s latest collection doesn’t just stop there, it shows the boys exactly how it’s done.
If you’re already a fan, you’ll be glad to know the ingenious Priscilla is still sticking to what she does best: modernizing traditional Asian clothing for the modern woman.
We love her updated cheongsams, but Priscilla has gone ahead to push the envelope by updating the sari, kebaya, and the samfu.
(Quick heritage lesson: that’s the Indian, Malay, and Chinese ethnic costumes respectively. Wear it and prepare to be the highlight of the party!)
So. Why are we gushing over this new collection again? It’s a total girl power moment: the label investigates beliefs about prescribed femininity by using masculine pieces like trousers, and reconfiguring them to suit a woman’s physique. It’s revolutionary!
Even Pixie Market has gotten onboard – but hey, we spotted this one first.
We think the end results are a fab way to show off a piece of Singapore culture without being tacky… wear Ong Shunmugam to out of town weddings, afternoon tea soirees, even to board meetings.
And if you still aren’t enticed, get this: all Prints Charming designs may be customised to fit or in varying fabrications and colours.
Prints Charming prices range between SGD249 to SGD429 and retails at Atelier Ong Shunmugam.
