Turf City Gets A Facelift
Tuesday, 4 Sep 2012
Bukit Timah kids, you’re going to go wild for this one.
In case you haven’t been anywhere near Turf City lately, here’s some breaking news:
a) It’s under major construction – we’re talking hoardings all over, dead end corridors, and (usually) confused pedestrians walking around trying to navigate their way,
b) it’s no longer called Turf City – it’s been renamed The Grandstand!
So what’s brewing?
For starters, a total remodelling of the site. There will be two buildings – a North Grandstand and a South Grandstand – with a connecting linkway. The North Grandstand will be seven storeys tall while the South will have six storeys, and each building will have a different focus.
Those who do their shopping at the current Turf City will be glad to know that Giant Hypermart has decided to stay on and will be on the ground floor of the North Grandstand.
Word is that The Grandstand is looking to displace Dempsey Hill from its current hotspot destination, so their mix of tenants is a highly curated selection.
Foodie alert: we’ve been told that there will be Italian, Spanish, French, Chinese, Korean, Cuban, and Japanese restaurants around, and confirmed tenants include Veganburg, Jack’s Place, Ristorante Da Valentino, the TungLok Group, Hansang Korean Restaurant, and Restaurant Hoshigaoka. Needless to say, we foresee many lunch dates.
There’s also plenty for fitness fanatics – four storeys of the two buildings in total are dedicated to sports, fitness and spa facilities. Sounds a tad much to us (hey, speed shopping is a real workout to some people), but we’re sure the sporting facilities will come in handy for those who plan to eat their ways through the dedicated floors of restaurants.
Kids are also a priority here: the entire fourth floor of the South Grandstand has been allocated to kids and will feature playhouses, an indoor playground, as well as a kid’s gym.
Psyched yet? We are – and we can’t wait to see what gems turn up at The Grandstand.
