All Hail Halloween
Best Halloween Costume Shops in Singapore
Thursday, 4 Oct 2012
Rent it, buy it, or even DIY it. You can only better this list if you turn up buck naked for Halloween – pics or it didn’t happen.
Here’s our pick for the best costume shops in Singers:
Costume Kings
Conveniently located in central Singapore, Global Mascot offers full catalogues of costumes. Their website and social media channels may not seem like much but don’t be fooled – we paid a visit and these guys have racks of costumes offering everything from Fred Flintstone to Captain Hook and Ogre Fiona (from Shrek). They even have boots for rent! There’s also plenty for kids. Proof that you can trust them: they previously handled the NDP costume accounts.
One for the Family
Dress the entire family at Costume City – they’ve got costumes for everyone from toddlers to adults. Keep the kids happy with fairy wings and wands, clown around in wigs, do the hula in a grass skirt, or bring the leopard print to a whole new level – mask included.
Fantasy Figure
Another well-stocked party store. Costumes ‘N’ Parties has a comprehensive catalogue online but a way more impressive collection in store. Their children’s costume collection caters to kids from 0-10 years, while their adult costume collection is categorized thematically – choose to go Roman Warrior, Nordic Viking, Jungle Jane, or Roller-Derby Referee.
Time Traveller
Though comparatively smaller (they only have 5000 costumes for rent), The Wearhouse offers an impressively wide range of costumes. Transcend time and space and don a Tang Dynasty robe, go English with a tea party frock, or get local with a wayang singer getup (which is pretty damn scary if you ask us). There’s also plenty of ethnic costumes if you’re looking to dial it down a little. Rental pickup is by appointment only, so plan ahead.
Vintage Vixen
For Halloween costumes that you’ll keep and actually flatter you, go vintage. And we mean really get at it – pull a fabulous fifties look with a nipped waist and full skirt, or go 20s flapper with a drop-waist and pearls. See here for a list of vintage boutiques that we love.
Winds of Change
Not only can you find made-to-measure costumes at Moephosis Concepts, you also have the option of mixing and matching your costumes. Rent different headgear, wigs, props, and accessories, or if that’s not your thing, rifle through over 20,000 rental costumes. You’re bound to strike gold.
One Stop Shop
With over 80,000 costumes and 4,000 accessories at Number One Costume Costume, you can go from superhero to pirate to a Victorian lady in no time. Normal costume rental will set you back an affordable $60-90 for 3 days, and only $25-40 for the tiny tots. Definitely worth a visit if you’re a serious Halloween fan.
