Shu Uemura Art of Hair Volume Maker: Aim high with this one. The Volume Maker comes with an automatic click-brush that dispenses an invisible texturising powder to provide hair with structure, volume and body. All you do is click it and brush on the powder onto your roots – perfect for those with limp hair or bouffant dreams. We also think it works great as a styling tool on the go because of its handy size, and if you’re unfortunately afflicted with an oily scalp and limp tresses come midday, this thing is a miracle product. We approve! And so does Oprah.
Volume Maker, available at Shu Uemura Art of Hair partner salons from September 2012, $58. Find it also at Action Hair Boutique, #B1-149/150 The Shoppes at Marina Sands, p. 6688 7321.
bareMinerals READY Blush: If you’re familiar with mineral make-up, you’ll also be no stranger to the ensuing mess. Thankfully, bareMinerals caught onto the woes of applying mineral makeup while fighting turbulence in the air (or just general sleepiness on the ground), and came up with a pressed mineral blush that gives you all the goodness of natural mineral make-up sans mess. Tip: lose the pre-packaged brush and use a fluffier brush instead.
Love+Toast Hand Paper Flower Handcreme: It’s light, absorbs quickly, and smells like a holiday. Infused with shea butter, macadamia nut, olive fruits, avocado & sunflower oil, this vegan hand cream is packed with the good stuff at a really affordable price. A portion of the proceeds also go toward Girls Inc., an organization that empowers all girls to be strong, smart, and bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate gender, economic, and social barriers. Our only gripe? Those twist-caps on the tubes are tricky to deal with – ergonomics please, guys!
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes: This is one of our best-kept secrets – this award-winning eye liner was originally designed for the synchronised swimming Olympians, which is why it works if you like to lounge by the pool with some extra make-up help. It goes on smooth, is highly pigmented, and is budge-proof. For those with oily lids, use this with an eye primer and you’ll be set for the day.
Lush Dream Cream: Once you get past the goopy green colour and the odd (though not awful) smell, you’ll realize that this moisturizer really does live up to its name. It’s particularly great for sensitive skin and even helps to soothe eczema – we’re not just saying this, we actually test-drove their claim! Plus it’s all natural and completely vegan.
Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 40: First up, we’re huge fans of Josie Maran, but man this moisturizer smells nasty! The smell doesn’t linger after application, but it kinda reminds us of those chewable vitamin tablets for kids. Other than that, the formula is more watered down than most day creams, but it’s also lightweight, easily absorbed, moisturizing, and chemical-free. Like all other Josie Maran products, it’s also infused with argan oil.
