Cool Internet Finds for Kids
Thursday, 18 Oct 2012
Parents, we know your pain. Who has time to read parenting books; you’re only pretending you understand what’s hazardous and what isn’t on those ingredients lists, and really, why does everyone else’s kids always look better-dressed?
Behold – the helping hand of the Internet. Here’s an idiot-proof guide to some of our latest discoveries:
Tinybop Loves
What happens when a group of designers get together to build a suite of children’s apps for iOS? They draw on inspiration – and lots of it. Lucky for us, these guys are fantastic at documenting them, and Tinybop Loves is a treasure trove of reviews on children’s books, apps, music, sites, and videos – all written by the designers (who are parents) themselves. It’s user-friendly; you can filter by age or category, and the reviews are snappy – perfect for parents who are always on the go, period.
Bitty Birdie Boutique
Some may balk, but we’re big fans of consignment stores. We’re also big fans of sales and bagging a good designer deal, so of course we’re all over Bitty Birdie Boutique. These guys stock gently-used designer togs and new with tags items from boutiques that don’t have an online platform, so expect past season, overstock, and sample finds from brands like Lilly Pulitzer and Ralph Lauren. In other words – be prepared to have a field day. Although based in the States, international shipping is also incredibly affordable – it’s a flat rate of USD7.95 and an additional $2 for each item.
Tinydipity
You don’t need to be a green mum to be onboard with the idea of safe and sustainable options for the littlies. Enter local online boutique, Tinydipity, where clothes are certified organic and everything else is eco-cool and produced sans harmful chemicals. Tinydipity mainly brings Scandinavian brands in, but they also have an in-house line of blankets, bibs, and reversible baby shoes made by work-from-home mums and seamstresses. Besides apparel, they also have bags, mealtime necessities, skincare, and even some really rad umbrellas.
Minor Avenue
How to get those tots looking good in a flash: it’s a one-stop shop at Minor Avenue. These guys currently stock 8 (awesome) brands – mostly organic, and all extremely stylish. It’s no wonder that these labels have a celeb following – we’d honestly wear most of these ourselves. Our top three picks: Popupshop, The Brand, and the ever-popular Mini Rodini. While we’re window shopping, how cute is this cat beanie?! Winter trip, anyone?
