Call it what you want, but the spotlight is on the ‘stache come this November Movember.

But ditch the hipster ‘tude; this mo’s all for a good cause.

Movember is a month-long charity movement that encourages men to grow a Mo (slang for Moustache). The aim? For these men to become walking, talking billboards for commonly unspoken men’s health issues, like prostate cancer and depression.

It’s a great movemet, and it’s been going on for nine years now, with this year being the first in Asia. It’s easy to take part and show your support, all you need to do is pop over to movember.com and register either as a Mo Bro or a Mo Sista.

Men who support Movember (Mo Bros) begin their pledge on Movember 1 with a clean-shaven face. For the remainder of the month, they must learn to master the fine art of moustachery by grooming, trimming, and waxing their stylish new Mo.

Movember aims to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.

Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their stylish (and sometimes amusing) Mo growing efforts. The funds raised in Singapore support the Singapore Cancer Society and are distributed directly to the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

?To kick off Movember in Singapore, free ‘shave-ins’ will take place across the city. Mo Bros can head to Penhaligons (ION Level 3) this Wed, 31 Oct 2012, from 1130am-5pm for a free public shave-in. Hounds of Baskervilles (ION B3) will also be conducting vintage shaves for all who visit the store during the day.

There will also be a slew of events throughout Movember to raise funds for the charity event: the store rental fees from the quarterly Zouk Flea & Easy will be donated to The Movember Foundation, for example. Come the third week of October, Mo Bros can head to Penhaligon’s at ION for a complimentary maintenance shave.

And to celebrate their achievements, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas will be heading to TBC on Friday, 30 Nov 2012 for an epic Gala party held across all participating countries!
