Easy Entertaining
[ADV] 5 easy holiday foods
Thursday, 20 Dec 2012
In between wrapping Christmas presents and keeping prying hands from tearing them open, you still have to prep for the big Christmas feast with the family… and entertain guests who drop in unannounced.
We’ve got just the tricks to help you turn this holiday season into the most stressful wonderful time of the year.
1. Keep the kids out of your hair.
This means keeping their fingers busy and their tummies filled, so make sure you stock up on kid-friendly sausages. They’re a cinch to cook and can be prepared really quickly. Make sure to cut them into bite-size pieces for the littlies. Tip: sausages are also great for adults – just choose a more sophisticated sausage like a chorizo.
2. Keep the adults jolly.
Not so surprisingly, it’s easy to keep the bigger kids happy too. Our solution? Ply them with boutique beer. ‘Tis the season to be jolly! We recommend Little Creatures.
3. Finger food is easiest (and doesn’t have to be messy).
Our weapon of choice: skewers. Like sausages, their cooking time is next to nothing. It’s best if you can get skewers that come prepared. Don’t forget to pick up some vegetarian options.
4. Spend time on one piece de resistance.
Okay, so you’ll have to spend a wee bit more time on this one, but it’s entirely worth it. Having a turkey on hand lets you whip up seasonal faves like turkey sandwiches or even a turkey salad in no time. Otherwise, serve whole and impress.
5. Or your fuss-free (and still impressive) option: ham.
Now Martha Stewart types will relish in baking their own hams, but for the rest of us who never have enough hours in a day, you can even have ready-to-devour ham delivered straight to your door.
