Help The Pigeonhole
Let's keep The Pigeonhole going!
Tuesday, 18 Dec 2012
You guys are familiar with The Pigeonhole, the charming bookstore/ café/ arts space/ hangout corner/ pop-up host on Duxton Road.
Sadly, after 21 months of operation, these guys will be having their last day on Saturday, 29 December 2012.
The guys at The Pigeonhole are pioneers in many ways. They’ve supported the arts and civil society in Singapore by hosting events, exhibitions, gigs, and talks. They’ve held regular open mic nights, worked with local artists, hosted film screenings, and provided a discussion space for everything from feminism to pop culture.
But because of issues with rent, they’ve been forced to shut down operations this December. If you value The Pigeonhole as much as we do, don’t give up hope yet!
There’s an ongoing fundraising campaign that they’ve started because so many people have come forward saying they don’t want The Pigeonhole to close down. (We don’t either – it’s almost an institution!) They’re aiming to raise USD13,000, and the funds will be allocated as such:
1. Repaying the rental currently owed to landlord (about $3,000)
2. Paying outstanding bills and invoices (about $2,000)
3. A 2-month security deposit for a new (cheaper) location ($6,000)
4. The 1st month rental for a new location ($3,000)
5. The necessary renovations, repairs, and painting for a new location (estimated at $1,800)
And a final parting note from The Pigeonhole:
Society needs more independent small businesses. The soul of society needs art and NGOs. We have been a platform, a soapbox, a sanctuary, a quiet Third Place; we’d like to continue to serve this purpose.
Just a small cash donation from you will help us keep our dream alive – you’ll be providing a voice to more people than you could ever imagine. If you can’t contribute by donating, please consider helping us by spreading the word to those who might be able to donate.
