M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2013
This year’s theme: Art & Entertainment. Organized and curated by The Necessary Stage, this year’s highlights include 15 international and local works from 10 different countries, including three Festival highlights from Singapore, Japan and Hungary.
As always, it’s a multimedia feast here: expect intense dance pieces, gallery exhibitions, art installations, theatre productions, and even piano performances. There are both free and ticketed shows around three venues: the Esplanade, the National Museum, and ION Orchard.
Suggested must-sees: C.I.N.T.A by Teater KAMi, an anthology of 5 short stories that delves into the myriad aspects of love and lovers in Singapore; Haru & Mina, a photographic series by Osaka-based photographer, Hideaki Hamada, that captures the journey of his two young children growing up, and Tao Te, the Asian premiere of an intense physical dance choreographed by Hungarian choreographer Ferenc Fehér.

Worlds Apart Fair
Head to Conrad Centennial Hotel, go straight into a room, and… view some art. Yes, you read right. Worlds Apart Fair will be the first Hotel Art Fair in Singapore and will feature emerging contemporary artists from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Australia.
Two whole floors of the hotel (40 rooms) will be converted into art space showcasing paintings and photography to video art, sculptures, and installations. Expect to view art work on beds, walls, windows, floors, tabletops, chairs, armoires, and even in the bathroom! Additional work will also be displayed along corridors and the main atrium of the hotel.
Even if you’re not in the market to buy art, this one warrants a second look just for the experience.
