Bring on the Fashion
Your Fashion Month Survival Guide
Friday, 1 Feb 2013
All right, fashionites, we hope you have those nap schedules sorted because Fashion Month is due to hit in a week!
New York Fashion Week (or Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week as it’s branded) is kicking off the manic month of shows with over 280 labels presenting their collections (in just one week, mind); after which fashion darlings will jet off to London for London Fashion Week, before scooting over to Milan for Milan Fashion Week and finishing the month in Paris. Phew!
Here’s what you need to know:
The disappointments
We say this with heads hung – Alexander McQueen won’t be showing this season. Creative director Sarah Burton is expecting twins, so their runway show has been substituted with a small presentation.
Also not showing – Peter Som (who’s been showing since 2001) at NYFW and French fashion house, Cacharel, at PFW.
Katie Holmes’s new line, Holmes & Yang, isn’t showing either – but we’re truthfully not bummed about this one.
The surprises
Guess which fast fashion retailer is hitting the runway at PFW? Cha-ching, it’s H&M. We’re not wild about this one, but H&M has been stepping up their eco game and garnering (good) press lately, so we’ll be watching closely.
The one to watch
One giant step forward for the fashion industry – and we couldn’t be more stoked! For the first time ever, there will be a dedicated plus-size fashion event, The Official London Plus-Size Fashion Weekend, happening the weekend of LFW.
How to watch the drama
Nifty resource right here. Bookmark and enjoy, but don’t say we didn’t warn you about those nasty raccoon eyes. Also look out for our fashion week highlights where we’ll run the dirty post-fashion week.
Lock in the dates
Fashion Month goes from 7 Feb-6 Mar 2013.
