Beloved marketplace FairPrice Finest is pulling out all the stops to bring the finest flavours at its month-long Finest Festival, starting today. Get treated to a gourmet food truck, cooking demos with a local culinary veteran, a hush-hush dinner and handsome purchase rewards through September. Read on, and have your tastebuds tempted:
Hot Wheels
One of the festival’s biggest highlights is the “Finest on Wheels” food truck, where you can taste creations such as Smoked Salmon Panini with Rucola Salad and Herb Butter Roasted Chicken with Caesar Salad, all prepared by chef Melvyn Lee, a talented graduate of local culinary school At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy (who’s previously from establishments like Al Forno and ilLido). Also, popular food columnist Victoria Cheng (Gastronommy.com) will be playing host.
Take note: the first location will be at MapleTree Business City (Open Plaza) and the food truck will be there on 27 August 2014, from 11am to 2pm. To get your hands on the finest fare, simply follow the event’s official Instagram account (@fairpricesg), post a selfie with the Finest Food Truck, tag the location, and hashtag your photo with #Finestfestival2014.
Cooking Demos with Eric Low
Watch chef Eric Low whip up sophisticated, Asian-inspired plates like Pan Seared Scallops with Miso Ginger Dressing, as well as Taiwanese Braised Pork Belly with Steamed Buns in a live cooking session. Held in collaboration with Food & Travel Magazine, the affable chef, who has over 20 years of culinary experience under his belt and is a member of the prestigious Singapore Chef’s Association executive committee, will be having his first demo on 23 August 2014 from 2pm to 4pm at FairPrice Finest, Bedok Mall.
There’ll also be complimentary food tasting sessions with chef John Sawarto – who’s worked at numerous five-star hotels across China and travelled around Southeast Asia to perfect his culinary skills. Get up close and personal with the skilled chef on 30 August 2014 at Fairprice Finest Bukit Timah and 6 September 2014 at FairPrice Finest Marine Parade, from 2pm to 4pm.
Handsome Purchase Rewards
Getting some grocery shopping done? Good news: during the festival period, you get to purchase either a spanking new Hancook frying pan (usual price $28) or a Neoflam Chop & Pour cutting board (usual price $33) for the special price of $9.90 each with every $35 spent in one receipt.
Dinner with a Twist
Pssst! There’s also a Finest on Wheels Feast happening and although details are scant (all part of the fun), here’s what you can do to snag a seat at this top-secret feast: follow the event’s official Instagram account (@fairpricesg), post a selfie of a home cooked meal made from ingredients purchased from FairPrice Finest on your own Instagram account, hashtag your post with #Finestfestival2014, and share your inspiration behind the dish. A total of 10 winners will be rewarded with a pair of dining invites to the event on 24 September 2014.
