What:
An extraordinary step back in time, with eight stylish antique Malay houses reassembled in an atmospheric village-style setting around a long swimming pool.
The new sister resort to next door Bon Ton Resort, the Temple Tree is a magical one-off. You can experience a slice of living architectural history by choosing from a collection of Chinese, Malay, Indian and European houses from all over Malaysia, painstakingly reconstructed and divided into 14 rooms and suites.
The Colonial house is made up of 4 suites, the Penang and Chinese House 2 apiece, the long Estate house has 5 separate rooms, and the Black and White house has a single suite. Decorated with authentic antique objets (think lacquered boxes, intricately carved furniture, colourful throws and four-poster beds billowing with white muslin); bathrooms have double rainfall showers and deep wooden bath tubs - most are situated al fresco style.
The 90-year-old Straits Clubhouse dishes up fantastic food and serves as a games room/library, bar, private dining room and meeting place. The hotel has a large selection of DVDs, books, magazines and board games, as well as a billiards table, satellite TV, binoculars, iPod and docking stations, WiFi - even guitars! There's a large swimming pool and excellent poolside service.
